Definition of dehead :.
(dē-hĕd)
1. (v.tr.) The cutting off of one's head. Decapitate.
Origins: Unlike behead, whose roots are be- (completely, thoroughly, on, over, add, to make) and head, meaning to add or make a head. The use of dehead creates more logical sense as its roots are de- (reverse, remove, reduce) and head, meaning to remove a head. Bedeck, bestow, and beribboned all indicate something being added, not removed. This term means to replace behead.
Example: Mary, Queen of Scots was deheaded at Fartheringale Castle, not beheaded, unless she had a spare head granted unto her by Elizabeth I.
